The full name is luffing jib tower crane.

here’s the “Lufffer” with the jib (boom) at around 75 degrees with a 1 brick load.

A few years ago Mateo ( a local high school student) agreed to star in some videos. Here he used the “luffer” to lift a through truss model.

The Luffer kit includes all the pieces needed to construct the luffer (obviously) PLUS a handful of additional members.

Now you can design and build your own structure. Take a look at the TRANSFORMER page on the main page. I took the members used to build the “3 boom crane” to construct a few new structures.

The luffer has a lot more members (plus with the added handful ) I’m sure you will come up with even better structures.

Go to the “Luffing jib tower crane” page and you’ll find lots of videos explaining how to “run the numbers”—compute how much load you can lift at a given boom angle, with a specified counter weight, and mindful of the Factor of Safety.
