That pretty much describes how a bascule bridge works. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like a see-saw with weights on either side of the pivot point, a bascule bridge consists of the weight of the movable part of the bridge- the deck- on 1 side and the other movable part ( including the counter-weight) on the other side. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" src=\"https:\/\/cloudliftdesigns.com\/hammerheadcranes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/35_big.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cloudliftdesigns.com\/hammerheadcranes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/35_big.jpg 700w, https:\/\/cloudliftdesigns.com\/hammerheadcranes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/35_big-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the 3rd st bridge in San Francisco with the &#8220;leaf&#8221; in  the raised position.
