BANANA BLINDS
A friend gave me the idea to make vertical venetian blinds using rice paper. My local art supply store carried rice paper, banana paper and mulberry paper.
I bout several sheets and cut them into 5″ wide strips. \Next I went to Office Depot where they laminated the strips and punched holes along the top edge. Now I could use shower curtain rings to hang the strips from a curtain rod.

To help the strips hang straight, i attached wooden “fish” to the bottoms. I used aromatic cedar “fish” left over from a previous job.
Here’s another project.

For these”fish” I used walnut.

Why stop with blinds? I liked how the light shown through the paper, so I built a window.

Here’s a close up

When the strips are laminated, it’s kind of hard to stretch them taut. I’ll have to work on that.
in the meantime, I built a pair of windows using larger pieces of “paper” without laminating.
